How to analyze a GunZ replay (.gzr)

Open Replay Analyzer

Discord sign-in is required to use this tool. After signing in, you return directly to the tool.

Choose your recording

Open the Replay Analyzer and sign in with Discord if prompted. Choose a non-empty .gzr recording no larger than 32 MB. Wait for the replay to finish opening before using playback. A .gzr file is a game recording, not a video; changing another file’s extension will not make it a replay.

Find a moment

Pick one exchange you remember, such as a death or a missed opportunity. Move the timeline to just before it and watch the player positions change. Pause before the outcome and ask where you could move next. Follow the whole exchange before deciding which position helped or hurt you.

A focused review

Click an individual shot in the action list to open its review. Inspect how the recorded aim lines up with the target. The shot diagram is a reference projection, not a recreation of the player’s camera. Missing or stale samples can limit what it shows; the recording is most useful from the recorder’s perspective.

Read the evidence

Compare the available match statistics with the exchange you watched. A total cannot explain whether a particular decision was useful. You can export the statistics with the JSON export button. Record one question to test next match, such as whether changing position earlier gives you a better shot.

Keyboard shortcuts

Double-click the map to play or pause. By default, Space also toggles playback and the arrow keys move five seconds backward or forward. Open Keyboard shortcuts to check or change the bindings. Stepping to the previous or next action pauses at that event, making it easier to inspect one moment.

Recording limits

If a file will not open, check its size and format and read the error before retrying. Not every GunZ version is supported. For a parsing timeout, try a smaller recording. Missing events or damage values do not prove an action never happened. Use the replay to form a practice question rather than a verdict about a player.
